Teen Dad With Face Tattoo Struggled Getting Accepted At Jobs Begs For Work On Facebook
Getting a tattoo is like a lifetime commitment. You have to be 101% sure that you really want to get it because tattoos are permanent. And having them removed can be time-consuming and very expensive. However, some people have tattoos that they really can’t part with, just like this teen dad.
Mark Cropp, 19, was serving a two-year, three-month sentence for pulling a knife during a botched drug deal in New Zealand. Due to this he had to leave his partner and young daughter behind while he served his time. Then one night in the jail cell that he shared with his brother, the pair got drunk on homemade alcohol made from fermented apples, bread, and sugar.
While heavily intoxicated, Mark and his brother decided to tattoo his nickname on his face using ink made of toothpaste and melted plastic knives and forks. He said, “Once it started, I thought, I can’t go back on it now. I wish I had stopped while the outline was there to be quite honest. Before I knew it I had this on my face… It was swollen like a bloody pumpkin.”
And the next morning, Mark already had a giant black tattoo all across his face that reads “Devast8.” The tattoo though was not something that he was proud of.
Talking to Daily Mail Australia later on, he said, “You know there was a long time there where I would devastate everything I touched. I would end up devastating everyone I met or got close to. They would be disappointed with something I had done or said – I was always hearing ‘that’s devastating.’”
The tattoo spans across his jaw and lower half of his face. It was memorable because his brother did it but it also quickly became one of his biggest regrets in his life. Simply because it greatly affected his future.
Then two months after his release from jail, Mark was an unemployed. He needed to quickly find a job because he has a family to feed. However, as soon as he submitted job application forms, employers were instantly turned off by his tattoo. Even though Mark has previous work experience, no one would offer him a job because of his face tattoo.
Because of this, he really wanted to have the tattoo removed. However, he couldn’t find anyone who would be willing to help him take this tattoo off his face. It’s such an arduous task which would require many hours of laser removal sessions. Also, it is going to be too expensive for him to afford too.
Mark knew that this time, he needed to ask for help. And with nowhere else to go, Mark turned to Facebook.
The desperate dad posted a selfie showing his controversial facial tattoo. He asked the public for help in finding a job hoping that it’s going to be a fresh start for him. And surprisingly, his post quickly picked up the attention of the internet as it went viral.
People have been sharing his post online, reaching far and wide. Then a staff member at an Auckland-based tattoo parlor, Sacred Tattoo, noticed Mark’s Facebook post. They decided to take on the challenge in making a huge difference in Mark’s life, to remove his face tattoo!
Additionally, his public plea for work went viral, resulting in him landing a job at a scaffolding company PR Contracting, where he earned $22 an hour.
