Make Sure You Don’t Become The Next Victim To This Tip Scam That Restaurants Pull

Get your pencil. It’s time for some math.
Waiters and waitresses actually make a pretty decent living, especially considering the fact that they don’t have a minimum wage and they are usually paid chump change for the number of hours that they work. These people make the vast majority of their income through the tip they get, which are usually up to the customers as well. Tips encourage e servers to be more cordial and provide a better experience to the customers.
However, it can also lead to some problems with cheapstake customers who won’t want to tip.
Most people leave a tip of between 15 to 20% for a decent to excellent service, although those who are especially rich o who received a spectacular service during their stay have the option of going above that percentage as well.
This number works well for both the customer and the servers, and that has been the custom for a lot of years. However, with the advent of credit cards and digital transactions, the opportunity to capitalize has become a little bit more obvious.
One restaurant found itself in a bit of a mess due to the practice related to the receipts that were given to the customers. You will most likely have seen a receipt with a suggested tip on it, and just thanked them for throwing that n and signed the paper.
However, what you might not know is that some restaurant have actually been messing around with those numbers in a bit to hide them from their customers.
Marcel Goldman has now leveled a lawsuit against The Cheesecake Factory, one off the largest restaurant groups in the world. There are over 200 Cheesecake Factory outlets spread all over the world. Every single one was robbing their customers exactly in front of their faces for quite a long time
Goldman exposed the illegal activities of the Cheesecake Factory restaurants after he noticed that something was off with his bill. He had paid $38.50 for his meal, yet the recommended tip amounted to over 40% of that levy.
The discrepancy came when they added up the total bill. Each recommended tip is actually the amount that the total party should pony up not each customer.
A lot of people would take the tip at face value and sign the paper, not even giving it a second thought. However, you might want to be a little bit more careful the next time you choose to eat out.
If you get the best service that you’ve ever had, ten maybe a 40% tip might sound alright to you. That obviously depends on how rich you are, and personal generosity. Still, no server should ever be angry with a 15% tip. The fact that this large restaurant chain tried to scam thousands of its customers out of their cash is truly an outrage.
It’s time for you to sharpen your math skills, because no one deserves to be ripped off in this manner. Cheesecake Factory issued a response to an inquiry by BuzzFeed on the issue, although they didn’t take responsibility.
“All gratuity amounts listed on our guest checks are suggestions only. Guests are free to tip as they please,” spokesperson Alethea Rowe wrote in an email.
A review on Yelp even claimed that Cheesecake Factory told them it was a “decision by our company executives to use this figure and we do so in all of our restaurants nationwide.”
