Jennifer Lopez Is Mother at the Mother Screening

Much as we all love to see sartorial risks on the red carpet, Jennifer Lopez proves that a flawlessly executed classic can also be a major fashion moment. For a special fan screening of her new Netflix movie The Mother at the Paris Theater in New York City, Lopez slipped into a perfectly fitted little black dress and accessorized with a statement diamond necklace, box clutch, and crystal-embellished strappy sandals.

According to Lopez’s regular stylist Rob Zangardi, the action star and pop icon is wearing Versace, while the spectacular shoes are from her own collection with Revolve. “THE MOTHER @jlo IN @versace AND @jlojenniferlopez @revolve SHOES,” Zangardi wrote on Instagram. She stuck to her usual soft glam makeup look, and wore her hair loose in soft waves. Achieving the correct ratio of black-to-sparkle is not as easy as it looks, and J.Lo has pulled off an elegantly balanced “Jenny From the Block”–meets–Breakfast at Tiffany’s look.

As she did for the Met Gala, Mrs. Affleck seems to have left her husband, Ben Affleck, at home for the event.

Speaking to the audience at the screening, Lopez said, according to People, “I think that there are some beautiful themes in here about what it is to be a mother, what it is to want to protect something with your entire life, as we do with our children.” She added that working with her onscreen daughter Lucy Gaez on the film helped her become a better mother in real life. “It was a great experience to have her mouthing off to me on the set and then go home and have the same experience at home,” Jennifer Lopez joked. “But it really was a kind of growing experience for me.”
